Trinity Lutheran Church began in the mid-1870s when Norwegian immigrants held church in their homes, and later a schoolhouse. Laymen served as the first ministers. Two separate congregations formed Trinity Church. The older church, the Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Congregation of Big Stone County was organized in 1876.
